Driveway Garden, MAY 2004

I planted a garden in July, 2002 along the back of my driveway atop a stone retaining wall. I was trying for a drought-tolerant dragonfly garden and it seems to be working.

The driveway garden has the following plants:

  • Stonecrop (Sedum Kamtschaticum 'Variegatum') Sprouting
  • Yarrow (Achillea Apricot, Huffnung, JungFrau, Martina)Sprouting
  • Butterfly Weed (Asclepias Tuberosa)
  • White Coneflower (Echinacea Purpurea White Swan) Sprouting
  • Cushion Spurge (Euphorbia Cyparissias) Sprouting
  • Coreopsis Verticillata Sprouting
  • Stonecrop (Sedum Spectabile 'Neon') Sprouting

The coneflowers are sprouting like cabbage. Some surviving achillea are scattered among them.

Two mounds of quickly spreading euphorbia surround a slowly growing coreopsis. I have to pull the euphorbia regularly or it grows out of bounds.
