Driveway Garden, June 2004I planted a garden in July, 2002 along the back of my driveway atop a stone retaining wall. I was trying for a drought-tolerant dragonfly garden and it seems to be working. The driveway garden has the following plants:

The coneflowers are leafy and buds should be forming soon. There are small numbers of achillea scattered among them.
The delicate yarrow are growing between the other plants. Silky yellow and white plus the apricot-colored varieties are growing this year.
The euphorbia blooms have turned from yellow to salmon. The coreopsis is reaching maximum height now and should be blooming within a month.
The coreopsis bloomed a couple of weeks later.
The first sprig of butterfly weed shows up in the garden. Butterflies and dragonflies line up in my back yard waiting to land...
This year I decided to grow string beans so I've put up a bean tower. I alternated plantings around the support strings, but I'm not sure which beans are which (there are two varieties) so I'll have to wait for them to flower. They are growing about a foot a week right now. |
